End of an era

Favorite assignment

High school was a surprisingly short experience for me. It started super fast and really halted towards the end. If I could do so many things differently I definitely would. The English class was the most consistent class for me this year. It was the only class I never hated at all due to having really great teachers.

Shootings

School shootings really are the norm at this point in time. It’s a sad reality but it’s true. Shootings in America are so common people all over the world make fun of Americans using school shootings as a main point when arguing which country is better. These situations should never happen. People have tried to give reasoning to the actions of these sick individuals. In my opinion they’re just the scum of the earth who use bad situations as an excuse to behave horribly. Many mass shootings like this one have been at the hands of victims of bullying and many other bad situations. Just because something bad happens to you that gives you no right to do the same to others and specially others who don’t deserve anything. sadly these cases will only continue rising. The United States loves guns and has made them so accessible to people. All we need are background checks and these numbers may go down. You can buy guns at Walmart over there. That really says something.

DDT

The book about the dangers of ddt by rachel carson was one of the things that helped speed the american environmental movement.

DDTis a pesticide developed all the way back in world war 2. It did its job so well that it would become a threat to the environment because it affected the food chains. Many experts on the matter called Rachel a mass murderer because she got banned. DDT was the best way to eliminate mosquitoes infected with malaria now that it was gone the mosquitos came back and killed many people. the statement: “Man is a part of nature, and his war against nature is inevitably, a war against himself.” means that there’s no way of fighting these situations without causing more trouble down the line. Mosquitoes adapt when they are exposed to only one pesticide.

Spring breaks

I rarely remember my spring breaks because I usually don’t go out and just take the time to rest. But last year I went to visit my grandparents in Florida and spent my time at disneyland. It was a short trip because we only had a week but it was very fun. It was my first time out of the country for the first time in years. It was very exciting. If i could go back in time to that time i’d buy different things. I went there with a 200$ budget and I regret almost everything I bought with that money. I’d definitely buy something different. This next week i’ll go to cabo rojo and i have no idea what i’ll do over there. i’ll probably spend my time at different beaches. hopefully it won’t be boring.

Banned books

Books shouldn’t be banned so often. The only situation a book should be banned or restricted is when it involves a child. A parent or teacher should be able to limit whatever their child consumes. However books that include controversial topics or taboo ideas should not be banned in general. In my personal experience I haven’t been restricted or limited when it comes to books because I’ve never really liked reading books so it wasn’t an issue for my parents. However my parents would have limited content like sex and drug abuse. And in my English classes the books provided have always been family friendly. The most mature content in a book I’ve read in class is death and the afterlife. No form of creative work or media that brings a controversial message should be banned unless it causes any harm to the consumer. Freedom of speech is super important and should be taken into consideration when discussing banning any form of media or entertainment. Some parents may not want to ban anything from their children. Topics in books unless they are misleading are information that will come sooner or later. It’s understandable if a parent would rather have their child learn through books than through experience.

Field trip

My last field trip was back in the 9th grade. We went to the observatory in arecibo. It was my first field trip in years and in a new school so I was pretty excited. It was a pretty long ride which is alway unfortunate because we spend less time on the destination. The trip was pretty ok. It wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped it’d be. It wasn’t bad for the first trip I had but not all too memorable. i had few friends at the time so i can’t say i had many funny moments.

Assessment 10

The article explains the importance of knowing how to identify misinformation. Many news articles are created with the wrong purpose of pushing an agenda they believe in and not the actual truth. The article provides a few ways of identifying misinformation on the internet. You should look past clickbait titles that are designed for you to engage with the articles and nothing more. Youalso need to check your own bias towards a certain topic. Sometimes you believe misinformation because it’s something you want to hear and refuse to accept the truth. One of the most important steps in identifying fake news is checking if any other sources support the claims. The article pushes the idea that one has to pay for reliable news. If you don’t pay news companies they’d have to rely more on ads and will most likely push out fake news because they attract more views.
